Linear stability for the Kerr spacetime

General Relativity, Geometry and Analysis: beyond the first 100 years after Einstein

This talk is about our recent progress in linear stability of slowly rotating Kerr and contains two parts. The first part is to obtain basic energy and Morawetz (BEAM) estimates for Teukolsky master equation which governs the dynamics of linearized gravity in Kerr. The second part is to show how such BEAM estimates are used to derive strong decay estimates of Teukolsky variables and to prove a linear stability result. This second part is joint work with Lars Andersson, Thomas Bäckdahl, and Pieter Blue.
