Tissue self-organization through mechanical feedback

In this talk, we propose a model of tissue self-organization. We consider adipose tissue which is constituted of clusters of fat cells (adipocytes) separated by walls composed of extracellular matrix (ECM). Our model shows that such directionally organized cell and fiber structures can result from simple mechanical interactions. The results of the model compare well with biological data. We use the model to explore the conditions for healing or regeneration of injured tissues.
